After my beloved Aeronca Oil Temperature gauge failed at the probe to line interface, I discovered it was difficult to find a mechanical OT with a 48 line and also had the right range of indication. This fit the bill for a CAM4 airplane and it was perfect in boiling water. The flight test showed it was the usual 100 degrees over OAT for the A65 Aeronca. I miss the OE gauge that went down to 40 degrees because it gave a positive and quick view of warm up. But this works.

The first one I received read 190 degrees in boiling water, I returned it and in 24 hrs had one that tested 210. Close enough. Installed and works fine

The gauge is just what I needed and works well. I did see other reviews that encouraged doing a boil test to make sure the gauge is accurate. The first one failed and I returned, the second works great. I would also tell anyone using this gauge to test before installing.

This is the second gauge I am installing my aircraft this year. The first read very low. After reading reviews I, like most every one else, found that I should have tested it in boiling water before install! Be sure to test it before install to make sure it reads correctly. The second gauge tested accurately, we’ll see how it works in the aircraft this week!

I was replacing the same Oil Temp gauge as was previously mounted.
(MY fault. I broke the temp probe while trying to remove the oil screen.)
So, no problem installing.
(As noted in another review - you have to make a hole in the firewall large enough to push the probe AND nut through, then plug it. You also need to put a collar around the gauge so it will fit in the larger, standard panel hole. But as I already had both, this was ZERO problem..
Checked the probe in boiling water prior to mounting. It showed just over 200F. Close enough.
Works perfectly.
Five out of five stars for the unit AND the service.
Recommended.

This is the mfr of the same gauge for Scott and a direct replacement for many original/older Cessnas. If you want internal markings send it out to an instrument shop. You can also place markings on the glass directly yourself.
May requre a new adapter nut to insure no leaks since the flange on the bulb changed over the years.

I would give you 6 stars if there would be a very simple range mark kit included, I would not estimate over $1.00 cost.

Boiling water test was right on and the mid-range at 170 was correct too. Will install tomorrow. 48 length is correct for the Aeronca 11 series with A-65 engine.

The first gauge I received didnt work properly. When the probe was immersed in 212 degree boiling water it would only indicate 198 degrees. However, customer service was absolutely courteous and expedient in getting a replacement gauge out to me. It passed the boiling water test and is now installed in the airplane.

Like the more detailed markings. I did test it in boiling water before install and the highest temp reading it went to was only 205 though. Not perfect but pretty close.

Exactly what I needed. Would have been 5 star if it had red line markings. This is one of two gauges ACS offers, dont buy the other one, I had problems with the bulb end sleeve. It wasnt crimped properly, it came loose and the line failed. The Rochester unit is more robust imho.

like normal for Aircraft Spruce, the right part, on time, and damage free. Only ding is I wish we could put a red line inside the glass.

Oil temp gauge looks great packaged very well but this is the second one i had to exchange. The first one when i put the probe in boiling water only registered 190 degrees. The second one registered 205 degrees but ill just keep it because im not going to pay the return shipping of $8.50 again.

Gauge seems to work fine, but the calibration is off. In rapidly boiling water, 3 other thermometers read 212 degrees F. This gauge reads 200 degrees F. Ive Red Lined it accordingly but somewhat disappointed.

I dont normally write reviews, but it thought Id share my experiance with the gauge.
First tand foremost it is a quality item and I tested it to be accurate within about 5 degrees F. It nice because It is a single unit that does not require any electrical wiring (its a mechanical gauge).
The problem is with the install. You have to turn the entire unit to screw it into the engine, being careful not the twist the cable from the gauge to the prob. If you do you will break it as it is made of copper and filled with fluid. This is problematic because you have to pass it though the firewall to do install it. Unless you want to drill a 2 1/4 inch hole in the firewall there is no practical way to do this. I tried being careful, but wound up breaking the cable on installation. I would recommend using an electrical gauge to avoid this problem.
