Sprays nice for coverage. Too early to see if it sticks to aluminum.

Great adhesion and tough primer.
SEM Self-Etching Primer Gray

Worked real good in bare metal. Will highly recommend
Best primer in a can. Works great.
Great stuff! Has excellent adhesion to stainless steel and aluminum with no surface prep other than cleaning. There is no need to sand or pre-etch. For best durability, should be used with a top coat from the SEM Color Coat line of paints.

Per supplier, I have spoken to many customers about this application and although it seems to work for them, Self Etching Primer is not intended to be used as a topcoat. My recommendation would be to use our EZ Coat product. It is a direct to metal and aluminum topcoat that has excellent adhesion and is available in 6 colors (Black, Olive Green, Light Green, Gray, Tan, Olive Brown). See "Alternate Items" for a link to the web page.
This self etching primer is primarily used on metal or plastic parts, and nitrate/butyrate dopes are used on fabric. We could not find any information on how well it would work with dope.
The data sheet for the Tempo paint only states to prime bare metal before painting. The 09-03594 primer will work with aluminum so these products should be compatible.
