Q: What are the actual dimensions of the EDM 830?
The EDM 830 is 3.1W x 4.2H x 3.0D (does not include connector and wire) and weighs .95lbs.
Q: Does this upgrade also apply to the 2.25 version of the EDM 800?
Yes, this is for both sizes of the 700 or the 800 EDM gauges.
Q: Can the EDM 730 or 830 replace the engine gauges in my airplane or does this act as a much more accurate supplementary instrument?
The EDM 730 and 830 are secondary engine monitors so you will need to keep your primary engine gauges and probes. The EDM 930 is a primary engine monitor replacement.
Q: Does EDM 730 upgrade 10-03864 include the options oil temp, oil pressure, CRB, fuel flow, OAT, RPM and MAP or do I need to pay extra for those options?
No, the upgrade is only for the new display so the options you currently have (4 or 6 cyl) will be displayed. You can add options at any time such as oil temp or oil pressure if you currently do not have those options installed.
Q: I currently have the JPI 700 4 cylinder and wanting to upgrade to 730 will I need to make the existing 2.25 mounting hole bigger or will the 730 fit in this hole?
The JPI EDM 730 is 3.1"W x 4.2"H x 3.0"D without connectors and wire. Also note that this gauge (3-1/8” mounting hole) can be mounted up, down, right and left. For more information please see our videos tab for the JPI 730.
Q: Does the EDM 730 take up less space behind the panel as opposed to the 700?
The depth of the EDM 730 is 3 inches. The depth of the EDM 700 is 8 inches.
Q: Does the 730 upgrade price vary for 6 cylinder versus 4 cylinder models?
No, because you will keep the current probes you have installed the upgrade to part number 10-03864 is the same price for 4 and 6 cylinder models.
Q: Can I exchange my 700 for an 830?
Yes, contact sales for a quote.
Q: I have an EDM 700 with the fuel flow option. The JPI website indicates that the 730 and 700 use different FF harnesses, but the same transducer. Would I have to buy a new harness if upgrading to the 730? If so, would I be better off upgrading to the 830?
The 730 is a direct replacement for the 730 as long as you have a JPI harness and probes. The same applies to the 830, however you will have to order and install the extra options that are available with the 830.
Q: I have the JPI 700 with OAT, OIL TEMP,FF. Will my wire harness plug into the JPI 730?
If he is upgrading from a 700 to a 730, all the functions he currently has will function with the 730 as plug and play.
Q: Does this JPI EDM 730 or 830 upgrade come with a fresh 8130-3 and related STC paperwork for adding this to my aircraft? New monitor, new paperwork...
An 8130-3 form can be purchased for an additional cost. Please request it at checkout. The STC is available for download directly from the JPI website.
Q: I have a C172, and bought the CO guardian cable kit. What guardian CO monitor will integrarte with the EDM 730?
The Guardian CO monitors are designed to interface with your audio panel or a flight system MFD. We have no compatibility information on interfaces with the EDM 730.
Q: What are the differences between the JPI EDM 730 and
830 units?
The JPI EDM 730 is the basic EGT and CHT where the EDM 830 is EGT, CHT, Oil pressure and temp, MAP, OAT, RPM and %HP.
Q: I have an EDM 700 with fuel flow and OAT installed and plan to use the current sensors and harness. When I order the 730, do I need to add these as options? JPI suggested I do not and that the options are only for the sensors and wires, and that the units are otherwise the same and will detect the correct inputs. However, the fuel flow without transducer option makes it sound like that is incorrect?
Per JPI, you will need the option without fuel flow transducer since you have all the probes already. The 730 will detect the correct inputs from your 700 sensors and transducer.
Q: Can I upgrade directly from the 700 to the 830?
The JPI 700 can be upgraded to 730 and the 800to the 830. The 700/730 is a basic EGT/CHT system with no option where the 800/830 is a fully loaded engine system. You cannot upgrade the 700 to the 830 as you are missing all the optional engine add-ons to make it an 830. Your only option is to update the 730 and buy all the addition JPI engine add-ons
Q: Does the JPI-730 have the colored bar parameters for different things or just numbers?
The EDM 730 has both numbers and graphs for their measurements. if you view the image you will see different screenshots for the display.
Q: What is the time frame in which you need the core returned in?
You must return your core within 30 days.
Q: Can I upgrade directly from the 700 to the 830 if 700 already has OAT, and FF, by also adding RPM and MAP options, or do I need to upgrade first to 800 to get RPM/MAP and then add 800-830 upgrade?
Per the manufacturer you must upgrade to the 730 and add any additional options that you require in your project.
Q: I have a 700, reading the Q&A...I have to upgrade to the 730 but can get the 830 functionality by adding the sensors that the 830 has like MAP, RPM, FF and so on? is this correct?
Yes, that is correct.
Q: Can the USB port on the 830 be used to charge an iPhone or iPad when not in use for a USB data dump?
No, and the manufacturer advises to not plug in any device other than a USB Flash Drive Stick in the USB Port.
Q: Does the 830 have a fuel pressure option?
Yes, this is a standard function on the 830.
Q: I have an EDM 760. Can I replace it with two 730s?
Yes, you can replace the 760 with (2) 730s. The twin engine instrument would be a JPI 960.
Q: A question, this is the cost, to buy the EDM730, with upgrade option? for that we need to ship the old EDM700 as a exchange, is it ok?
Yes part # 10-03864 is the upgrade and the old EDM 700 will be returned as a core to JPI directly once the new unit is sent to the customer. $300 core charge.
