Reviews

CLOCK/DATE SETTING ADVANCES TOO MANY TIMES WHEN PUSHING DT/AV. SETTING TIME AND DATE TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE SUCCESSFUL. ONCE CLOCK/DATE IS SET, WILL NOT START WHEN PRESSING DT/AV AGAIN. WHEN IT WAS NEW IT SEEMS TO WORK FINE.

It functions as a clock... But not very well. Having to get an A&P to change the battery or 12/24 hour is a horrible design. Like another review mentions, one button press can mean the number advances once, twice, 5x, whatever. Ive had better performing clocks from the clearance section at Wal-Mart. There is no way this clock should be worth near $700 (even factoring in the standard aviation markup), with its terrible design and extremely limited feature set. This clock was in my plane when I purchased it and Ill be replacing it soon.

Horrible clock, battery change is a pain which you will do often because it eats them. The worst feature is it slows down as the batteries get weak so your 1 min hold will be a lot longer using this if the batterys werent recently changed. Waaaayy too many zeros in this price, my plane came with it and my advice is keep looking.

Q: How do you set the clock for the LC-2?

To set the time, press the SET button to cause the hour's digit to flash. Press the DT/AV button until the desired hour is displayed. Then press the SET button one time to cause the minute's digit to flash. Press the DT/AV button to advance the minutes to the next minute coming up. The SET button is pressed once more to hold the time displayed. When the time standard used shows the exact time displayed, press the DT/AV button to start the clock function at the exact second.

Q: If this clock does not have FAA approval, it is legal for installation to meet IFR equipment requirements?

Yes. But only in experimental aircraft. The LC-2 clock cannot be used as part of an IFR system in a certified aircraft.

Q: Regarding the Astrotech LC-2 clock: How to install batteries and what type?

The chronometer is operated by 2 internal AAA size batteries. To replace the batteries, remove the chronometer from the aircraft. On the back side of the chronometer, remove the screw and then carefully separate the can from the faceplate without damaging the battery connection wires. Carefully remove the 2 batteries from the battery holder inside the can and replace with new batteries. Ensure that the new batteries are installed in the correct polarity orientation as identified by 2 "+" (positive) symbol labels attached to the battery holder. The batteries should be replaced every 24 months.
