Very nice replacement for my Whelen A555A 28V Tail Light ... The pseudo strobe effect is impressive.

Good product, easy install on my Mooney .... basically a plug and play after removing strobe power box. Brighter then original that came with plane.

I installed this on my '59 Cessna over a year ago. I love it. No RFI at all. Increased visibility. Increased safety. Reduced current draw. People say that they can really see me at night with this product. It might not be PMA'd but neither is the fuse in the circuit. It is made to MIL spec's. An excellent product. I love it.

Not worth $10. Barely lights up. Poor quality. You can stare right at it, its so low powered.

Q: This combination tail / beacon light states that it will fit where a standard Grimes light would go. Does it need separate wiring for the strobe and nav or is it a selectable function?

Per supplier: The unit mounts in the same mounting holes as the Grimes. We do provide new screws as most often the old one are usually rusty. The unit does not require additional wiring (use the existing wiring) for the grimes. The unit is self contained and all the electronics are in the lamp. The nine LEDs facing to the rear are on continuously while the 36 LEDs around the circumference flash. One circuit controls both functions on one circuit. On or off.

Q: I note on the PSA enterprises Combination tail beacon light it says not PMA'd. Does this mean its for experimental aircraft only?

That is correct, since this is not a PMA'd or TSO'd product, this is for use in experimental aircraft and not certified aircraft.

Q: My Grimes does not rotate anymore due to stripped gears. Can I remove the shield behind the bulb and use this light in a stationary position?

The manufacturer does not recommend modifying the product.

Q: What is the difference between this unit and the PSA #11-12040 (LED tail/beacon light). I have a standard Grimes mounted tail light, do I need this unit or will the drop in bulb (#11-12040) do the same thing? Is this unit and just the drop in bulb rated at the same brightness? Thanks AS, great service as always!

Part # 11-12042 is the full assembly. If you already have the Grimes then the bulb part # 11-12040 will be sufficient for the install.

Q: What is the rated output (lumens or candlepower) of the beacon and the tail light of this PSA combo light?

Per the manufacturer: This is rated at 20 candlepower of the tail light, and the beacon portion is about 100 candlepower.

Q: On my Mooney I have a Whelen power supply, which gives me the beacon flash. Do I need to remove it for this unit?

Yes you would need to remove it, LED lights do not require the power supply.

Q: What socket type(base) is used BAY15s or BA15s?

This is a BA15S base.

Q: I do not have any beacon on my experimental plane, can this unit be used as a stand alone beacon with power via a switch to it?

Yes, it could be used for that application.

Q: This unit is is clear (white light) and also produces a red beacon flash correct?

This is a white light that produces a white light flash.
