CANDLER FIELD MUSEUM YOUTH
AVIATION PROGRAM

PURPOSE
The Candler Field Museum Youth Aviation Program was founded in 2013 for the sole purpose of imparting knowledge of aircraft related subjects to young people who have a keen interest in beginning a career in aviation. The program was formed by the Board of Directors of the Candler Field Museum. Several of the members of the board are either currently involved in an aviation career or have retired from an aviation career. Most of these board members were guided by someone in this field when they were young. All want to "give back" through an organized program that will help young people establish a meaningful career.

HOW IT WORKS
Under experienced adult guidance students will be taught the skills of restoring and maintaining aircraft along with being provided the opportunity to actually work on aircraft. In addition, those interested will have the opportunity to learn how to pilot an airplane through the Candler Field Flying Club. This program is very structured and the students must have a strong commitment to learn. Those interested in obtaining their aircraft mechanic license will be afforded the opportunity to log hours toward the time requirement for this license. Students who elect to learn to fly an airplane will be taught all of the skills needed for their pilot's license. Students actually earn their flying time by working in the museum or the flying club. This affords the individual a method of learning to fly with minimal expense.
