FAA-approved revolutionary seal design! This vent window seal is a departure from the foam rubber weather stripping commonly being used on all the Cessna vent windows. The seal is made from the same FAA-PMA approved rubber compound as the door seals. The hybrid rubber compound sealing material is unique because it compresses under pressure from the door. When the door stops applying pressure against the seal, the seal no longer compresses and actually makes an impression of the surface pressing against it. This seal conforms to surfaces so well that when you open the door you will actually see a perfect imprint in the seal of every rivet and seam! The seal has the ability to compress from its full thickness to as small as 1/32" thick without losing its sealing ability. The hybrid compound meets Military Specifications (Mil Spec) and is now certified for use on single engine aircraft by the FAA, requiring only a log book entry. The seal is FAA-PMA APPROVED, Affordable, and Made in the USA. |
I applied this product on an M20C. Instructions do specify that it will close with difficulty until the material compresses. I could not get door to close and it might be specific to Mooneys but this product was too thick for my purpose.
Im not really sure how to rate this item. One one hand, it does appear to be a good quality seal, its FAA PMA approved, and attaches to the door so its not as easily damaged as their other foam seal kit. HOWEVER, I spent over six hours removing the old seal and removing all of the old adhesive and an hour installing this new seal. The instructions say that the door will be harder to close at first but will become easier once the seal forms to the door. I couldnt even get the door to remotely come close to closing once the seal was installed. It was binding somewhere and I could see the stress on the door hinge as I put my weight into trying to force the door closed. I reached out to the manufacturer but received no response. I then spent six more hours tearing this off and cleaning the door again. I will probably go back to the fuselage-mount foam. It wont last as long but its cheaper and easier to deal with.
