Q: Will it interface with a Stec-30 Autopilot?

Per Aspen, the E5 will integrate with both the Stec-30 and the GTN 650.

When you install the RSM (Remote Sensor Module - Magnetometer), you have the option during time of order to mount externally on the top or bottom of the aircraft.
Q: What GPS input options for the Aspen Evolution E5 are there if a panel mounted source is not available?
Per the manufacturer, an IFR approved panel mounted GPS is needed. IFR GPS does not need to be WAAS.
Q: Will a kln-94 and/or a GX 65 appropriate GPS feeds for the Aspen E5?
Yes, an IFR approved panel mounted GPS (does not have to be WAAS)
Q: Does this Aspen E5 EFIS instrument have to be installed by a dealer in certified aircraft?
The E5 does not have to be installed by a dealer but does have to be installed by a A&P when being installed in a certified aircraft.
Q: Will my Garmin GTX 335 transponder with internal GPS, interface with the E5 to provide the GPS source?
No, as the GPS transponder is for ADS-B out, where Aspen requires an IFR panel mounted GPS source
Q: Can the WAAS GPS source for this Aspen E5 be from a LYNX transponder?
No. Per the manufacturer you will require an IFR GPS source such as a GNS430W or a GTN 650, etc.
Q: What does it mean by with or without ACU?
The ACU is an Analog Converter unit. This integrates the Aspen E5 older analog systems.
Q: Will it accept input from VOR receivers? How many?
Yes. It will accept one VOR source.
Q: When this Aspen E5 is put in a certified aircraft, what is the additional cost for the TSO version or is the E5 acceptable as is?
There is no added cost for it to be put in a certified aircraft. The E5 is a STC’d product. If interested, there is a version where you can upgrade to the PFD Pro Max, and that is TSO’d.
Q: Does the Aspen E5 function with a GNS 430 non WAAS?
Yes, it will function with this unit.
Q: Will this Aspen Avionics E5 work with a Garmin 250XL?
Per the manufacturer, an IFR approved panel mounted GPS is needed.

Yes, if the E5 installation includes an ACU, the ACU will supply the HDG bug signal to the Sys50.
Yes, for the GNS/GTN series, the E5 will display the left/right info but, it will not display GPS annunciators like WPT, MSG, etc so, if the GPS screen is outside the primary field of view, they would need to install some annunciators.
Q: What is the meaning of the RSM Mounting?
The RSM is the magnetometer used for the E5 unit.
Q: Is the E5 a VFR only instrument unless you have a AI or have a battery powered AI for IFR?
The E5 can be used for both IFR and VFR flying per the manufacturer.

Q: Will the Aspen E5 work with Garmin GPS 175 GPS Navigator?
Per Aspen, the Garmin 175 is compatible with the E5 displays as it utilizes the standard ARINC outputs.

Yes. Per the installation manual the E5 will connect to the KFC200.
Q: Does this unit interface with (Century / Piper) Altimatic IIIC autopilot?
Per the manufacturer, this is compatible with most legacy autopilots.
Q: Will the certified Tru Trak autopilot work with the Aspen?
Per the manufacturer: interfaces to the new TruTrak Vizion Autopilot and is compatible with most legacy autopilots (Optional ACU and EA100 may be needed depending upon autopilot type.)

The EFD is a digital system and supports both ARINC 429 and RS-232 digital interfaces. In installations with a modern digital radio installation, the display connects directly to the interfaced equipment. In installations that require interfaces to analog avionics (i.e., older VLOC navigation radios and autopilots) an optional ACU is required to digitize the analog signals into ARINC 429.
Q: Can this use a Garmin Aera 795 (panel-mounted) as a GPS source?
Please view the installation manual in the documents section. on page 46 of 226 will show the compatible GPS units. The Aera 795 is not an acceptable unit.
Q: Does the RSM it comes with have GPS capability?
Per the installation manual this unit can communicate with a GPS unit. The installation manual has a list of acceptable GPS sources.
Q: Will it interface with an Stec-20 Autopilot?
Yes. Per the manufacturer, the Stec-20 can be interfaced with the ACU.
Q: Are these items sold with the new standard HSI and the TAS option?
Options are not included standard and any desired option will need to be purchased separately. Please contact our Avionics Sales team for pricing and lead time on a system with these options.
Q: Would a Stratus 3 be compatible as a GPS source for the Aspen E5?
No, the Stratus 3 would not be an approved GPS source.
Q: Will the Aspen E5 unit interface with a Century I autopilot?
Per the installation manual, no, unfortunately it will not interface with the Century I.
Q: What comes in the box when you order and select with ACU?
This will include the display, config module, RSM w/o GPS, ACU and install kits.
Q: Would the Appareo ESG be compatible for a GPS source?
That is not listed in the compatible units for GPS.
Q: Can it be hooked into an existing GMU 11 magnetometer?
No, this will not work with the GMU 11.

Per the installation manual, you are able to integrate both units.
Q: Will I need to replace my standard strobes with LEDs because of the magnetometer?
We recommend that you speak to your installer in regard to specific requirements regarding electrical "noise" to ensure that it is installed correctly.
Q: Why would the ACU be required/needed on the Aspen E5?
The optional Analog Converter Unit (ACU) provides compatibility with older, analog-based avionics when required. The ACU converts and concentrates multiple analog interfaces to digital signals supported by the EFD.
Q: Will the Aspen Avionics Evolution E5 interface with the Narco NAV 122D (with the ACU maybe)? and with The bendix king KT74 adsB?
|based on the installation manual, it will interface with the Narco Nav 122 through the ACU. However, there is no indication for the transponder.
Q: Do you offer the upgrade feature unlock for the Aspen E5?
No, we do not have the upgrade unlock as a purchase option from us. Since it is a software update, once you have the base unit you can purchase the unlock directly from Aspen Avionics.
Q: With a G430 non-WAAS do I need with ACU?
Per the manufacturer: GPSS through the EFD1000 E5 is only available if Label 121 is transmitted by the GPS over the ARINC 429 bus and the optional ACU is installed.
Q: Do I need to get the EA100 adapter to operate a Century III autopilot planning on keeping my vacuum powered attitude indicator?
Per the item description, this is recommended for installation by Aspen Avionics when being interfaced with Century Autopilots.

Yes, it will work with the E5.
Q: Does the Aspen E5 come with FAA Form 8130-3?
No, the Aspen E5 is FAA STC approved. Aspen certification paperwork can be included with the unit if requested at time of order. 8130-3 export form may also be furnished but will need to be requested at time of order. Additional fees may apply.

No, a wiring harness is not included and must be fabricated separately.

The E5 does not have a flight director option.
Q: If the attitude indicator in the Aspen E5 tumbles does it require an interval of level flight in order to re-establish its horizontal datum?
Per Aspen: "If you level off it will eventually correct itself, however, this could take quite some time. If you upset the attitude and then level off, press the MENU key and then the AHRS RESET key and it will correct itself within 30 seconds. This is a much faster way to have the attitude realign to level."
Q: If wired to a WAAS GPS, will the CDI on the Aspen E5 provide horizontal and vertical guidance for approaches?
Yes the E5 system supports horizontal and vertical guidance for approaches.

It is a software upgrade that turns your E5 to E5 Pro MAX version, with new displayable screens and functions. The unit includes a dongle complete the software upgrade.
Q: Will the newest Aspen E5 work with a KLX135A? Anything additional required?
Per Aspen: "Yea. The KLX-135A will interface to the EFD1000 Pro, Pro MAX and E5. It will require the E5 w/ACU since it is a RS-232 interface with analog wiring needed."
Q: Does this E5 required or come with circuit breaker? what is the amp?
Aspen does not supply the circuit breaker with the units, 7-1/2 and 2 amp breakers are needed.

No, the STEC 50 will not interface
Q: Will the Aspen E5 CDI indicator receive and display VOR/LOC information from a Trig TX 56A NAVCOM?
Yes, this will work with Trig TX56A, but it will require a ARINC 429 converter.
