I have owned my C-40 since 1988. Actually, I bought one for myself and one for my wife. Both still function perfectly. The only modification I made was to replace the foam seals with gel filled and I did that with the Softcomm options when I purchased the headsets. The gel seals are still in perfect condition. At the time, I paid about $125 for each of them. They arent that much more expensive today and should probably cost $300 based on economic changes alone. Ive flown in all kinds of aircraft and found them to be great at attenuating noise. I still use them today and was just thinking of adding a third party ANR system as they are so well made. These headsets may be thought of as low cost, but I can assure you, they are very well made and have more than performed for me - and still do during my everyday flying in Citabrias, Sundowners and Warriors.
I’ve used Softcomm headsets for many years. The C40 model seemed to fill my needs nicely. The last ones of the C40 model I purchased 8 years ago were of a higher quality. The materials feel cheaper than the previous model. There were no ear cup covers with the new model. The sound quality was as good as the previous models.
