Q: At manual for AV-30 written that IAS units can be only KTS and MPH. Is it possible to add KMH? The same question fot ALT units, it is only Feet. Is it possible to add Meters?
Per the manufacturer: these will not display KMH.
Q: Good morning, I'm planning to visit the 2020 Sun Fun and pick up an AV-30 CERTIFIED at your booth, obviously ordered in time. Do you think the instrument will be ready certified for that time?
There is a certified version of this unit. Please see Part# 11-17556. We are expecting first delivery of the certified version in January of 2020. Part # 11-17555 will not become certified, it will only be for experimental so for certified applications, be sure to order 11-17556.
Q: The manual indicates the AOA has a slow speed limit of 35 knots. I am looking at putting it on an experimental aircraft with a stall speed of 30 statute miles an hour. What happens to the instrument reading when you go below 35 knots?
Because the limit is 35 knots, it will not display anything until it is over that speed.
Q: Does the Uavionix AV-30 unit show bank angle (or at least some of the common points 15/30/60)?
No. This unit does not show bank angle.
Q: Will the AV-30 link with a Tru-Trk auto pilot like the 2020 planned S-Tec adapter can it be used on other brand auto pilot?
At this moment we do not have this information available as Uavionix has not released this information.
Q: When in HSI mode can this Uavionix AV30 unit display vertical guidance from a GPS for an LPV approach?
Per Uavionix: there is no vertical guidance at all. There is only the horizontal steering indicator when in DG Mode.
Q: Will the AV-30 unit show speed limits (Green, White, Yellow arc, Vne red line) etc. I didnt find it in the specifications)
Yes, the gauge will have a green and red arc for the indicated airspeed.
Q: Does this pair with the Garmin 495 GPS?
Yes, The Garmin 495 provides NMEA output that can be received and displayed by the AV-30. The AV-30 supports NMEA protocol at baud rate speeds of 4800 and 9600, while "Aviation/moving map" protocol is fixed at a 9600 baud rate.
Q: Does the AV30 have an internal GPS?
No. Per the installation manual, it can function without a GPS signal, however it will require a GPS signal for full functionality. The GPS signal must be supplied to the unit, it is not internal.
Q: Does AV30 (Experimental) pair with the Garmin 150XL GPS?
Yes, the Garmin 150XL sends AVI aviation format and NMEA format that can be displayed by the AV-30.
Q: What is the AV-30 Airspeed Limit?

It is proprietary but it uses Pitot, Static, IMUs and is a calculated AoA

An Installation Kit with D-sub Connector, Pins, Clamshell and ground strap are provided. No pre-built wiring harness is included.
Q: What is the recommended OAT probe to enable the OAT/TAS/Density altitude functionality?
uAvionix recommends the Davtron C307PS, Aircraft Spruce PN 11-04603, as a dedicated external analog probe. This cannot be shared between multiple displays.
Q: Is the HSI function of the AV-30 compatible with the KX-155 Nav/Com?
Per Uavionix Tech Support: P/N 11-17555 does not have HSI compatibility with the KX-155.
Q: What Nav/Comm units are compatible with the HSI function of the AV-30?
Per the manufacturer there is no compatibility with a NAV/COM. This unit only interfaces with a GPS unit for GPS signal.
Q: Is this Uavionix AV-30 unit compatible with an Garmin Area 550 GPS?
Yes, the Aera 550 can connect to the AV-30 and display GPS information using NMEA output on the Garmin 550.
Q: What GPS units does this unit connect to? I am looking to put 2 of these in an LSA connected to a GPS, either a portable type mounted permanently or an affordable panel mount. What can we use for the GPS?
Per Installation manual: The optional GPS interface is an RS-232 serial input that is compatible with the industry standard Moving Map / Aviation Protocol output provided by most panel mounted GPS units and various aviation handhelds.
Q: What does a replacement backup battery cost?
A replacement battery is not available at this time. You would need to contact the manufacturer if you are having battery failure.
Q: Can I use uAvionix skyFYX as the GPS source?
Per the installation manual it must be provided by a panel mounted GPS or an aviation handheld.
Q: Is this unit legal to use in a Canadian registered owner maintenance airplane?
This is intended for experimental aircraft installation. Please check with your local aviation authority for specific legality information as it pertains to your country / area.
Q: I don't have an avionics master switch. The AV30 will be powered up when I start the engine. Does the AV30 have internal protection from voltage spikes while cranking the engine? Does the AV30 require a on/off switch in order to protect the unit from electrical damage while starting the engine?
Per the installation manual, you will need a circuit breaker to protect the device.
Q: Will this unit interface with the Garmin 760? What is the display pixels? I have a tail dragger will I be able to get enough adjustment for level flight?
The AV-30 pitch can be adjusted in the install menu by adjusting the pitch trim. Once it is set it does not need to be adjusted again.
Q: Can the AV-30 be used to fly an ILS/LOC approach?
Per the manufacturer, no it cannot.
Q: Will the AV-30 work with the Garmin GTX-335 ADSB as a GPS source?
No. The AV-30 will not receive GPS information from the GTX 335.
Q: Is there a link to the equipment I would need to buy to provide GPS information to the AV30? what are the minimum requirements for the GPS feature to work?
The GPS would have to be wired in to the connector for the AV30. For specific information, please view the installation manual found in the Documents link on the webpage.
Q: With the altimeter pressure adjustable, is it possible to be connect at my transponder to be use as a mode c?
This unit will not feed altitude to your transponder. You would need an altitude encoder for mode c.
Q: Can the AV-30e be mounted Horizontally? I have a Breezy and need it mounted on the floorboard.
It is not designed to be mounted horizontally per Uavionix.
Q: Is there an option or setting that records Max G-load during flight with the AV-30 like the AV-20 does?
Yes, the AV-30 has the same setting.
Q: Is it possible to connect the AV-30-E to the Garmin gps map 296 via cable?
Part # 11-02694 is the data/power cable. The blue wire is NMEA 9600 and the violet wire is NMEA VHF out.
Q: According to the installation manual, some versions of the AV-30-E have an internal magnetometer (part number (UAV-1004035-002) and some do not (UAV-1004035-001). Which part number is offered by Aircraft Spruce, the one with the internal magnetometer or the one without? Please clarify. Thanks.
The AV-30-E units we stock will not come with an internal magnetometer. An external magnetometer will be required.
Q: I would like to order an AV-30-E with the internal magnetometer. Does the one you propose on the site have an internal magnetometer ?
No, the AV-30-E does not have an internal magnetometer. The optional AV-MAG add-on will be needed.
