Q: What size hole has to be drilled in the firewall to get the tachometer ferrule cap through to the tachometer? I will be using the .260 ball for the tach cable.

Drill a 5/8" for installation.

Q: Is the ball split in to two halves? The picture shows a split on exposed end. That would allow for assembly point at main diameter of cable. My cables have fittings at the ends of a larger O.D.

Yes, the center ball the grips the outer housing of the cable is split in two pieces to allow cables with threaded ends to be used.

Q: what size whole is drilled in firewall when using this clamp with a .125 cable?

Part # 05-06929 requires a .625 hole in the firewall.

Q: Is the fitting aluminium or steel?

These are steel.

Q: Whats the difference between the 6000 and 7000 series?

The 6000 series fitting is smaller and has a steel grommet that is 1/2 inch diameter. It can accommodate a cable up to .260 inches and only needs one hole that is .625 diameter in the firewall to mount. The 7000 series has a steel grommet that is 1 inch in diameter. It can accommodate a cable up to .750 diameter. It needs three holes in the firewall to mount, one that is 1.125 inches in diameter and two small holes to clear an 8-32 screw.
