3M STRIP CAULK - This black, nonhardening compound in 12" strips is the most satisfactory product for sealing windshields and windows. 61 strips per box, more than enough for an average, leakproof windshield installation. |
Great for filling deeper gaps on the edges of windshields before using a sealant.

3M Strip Caulk # 08578 (Black)
As advertised. Thick non hardening stuff. It’s not really much good except for a temporary plug of a window leak.

Pretty much the standard for windshield installations.
These caulk strips work GREAT for intended purpose of sealing windshield edges! Water-tight, stays flexible, and easy to remove if needed. However ... I give the 3M Company a D-minus for poor packaging. The strips are packaged in 12-inch long strips (about the diameter of a pencil), several laid alongside each other, and separated from the next layer by a sheet of paper. When I went to use it, they all stuck together! Was nearly impossible to neatly remove any single strip of caulk without it sticking to the neighboring strip and stretching & deforming beyond its intended size. The only redeeming factor was, you can easily wad the stuff back together and roll new little strips to your desired thickness. Then, just lay it down in pieces. For a world-class maker of adhesive products, I would expect 3M to have solved this seemingly minor, yet highly frustrating problem.
