Overview

This uAvionix skyBundle includes a TSO skyBeacon and a certied skySensor for a complete 2020 compliant, near zeroinstall, Class B1S ADS-B UAT transmitter with WAAS GPS and ADS-B in solution integrated into wing tip position lights.

The skyBEacon transcoder decodes replies from legacy Mode C transponders. 14 CFR §91.227 compliant. Smart phone configurable over WiFi. skyBeacon is a revolutionary new way to equip ADS-B. Simply replace your existing navigation light with skyBeacon and you are ADS-B compliant for 2020.
  • 2020 Compliance
  • Mounts in under 10 minutes
  • Lowest total cost of ownership of any ADS-B Out solution

Install in Minutes

Installation is as simple as replacing the aircraft position light.
Simply replace the aircraft position light, that’s it! No airframe modifications or additional antennas are required. Plus, it works with any Mode C or Mode S transponder. skyBeacon installation uses the existing mounting location, breaker and wiring, with 3 screws and 3 wires. The transponder data is provided via the existing aircraft wiring system using the power transcoder.

Remain Anonymous

Just because you are ADS-B equipped, doesn’t mean you want to be tracked. With skyBeacon’s Anonymous Mode, your aircraft identification remains hidden from the ADS-B OUT signal while squawking 1200. Anonymous Mode keeps the skies safe while protecting your privacy.

Self-Contained WAAS GPS

A built-in WAAS GPS provides skyBeacon with rule compliant position data for ADS-B transmission. No additional wiring or external GPS antenna mounting is required.

Works with Your Existing Mode C Transponder

uAvionix’s patented power transcoder technology seamlessly communicates with your existing transponder, any transponder, over your aircraft’s electrical system. tailBeacon and skyBeacon are the only UAT ADS-B OUT devices on the market that work with Mode S transponders.

Instant Setup and Configuration

Mechanically installing skyBeacon is the first easy step. With uAvionix’s mobile app, configuration is just as simple. Our mobile application (available for both Apple iOS and Android) guides your installer through setting the necessary values including the ICAO address, emitter type, aircraft length, width and GPS offsets.

Wingtip Adapters

If your wingtip or lighting configuration is not supported by skyBeacon, you can purchase a fairing adapter kit for various aircraft.

Q&A

Please note, Aircraft Spruce Australia's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Aircraft Spruce Australia assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Any product eligibility information provided here is based on general application guides and we recommend always referring to your specific aircraft parts manual, the parts manufacturer or consulting with a qualified mechanic.

Q: Does the Strobe wiring accept 12v or does it have to be high voltage?

Both units can work with aircraft that have the input voltage from 11-31V DC.

Q: Is there a sync wire between the strobes so they will flash simultaneously?

This unit does not have a sync wire for simultaneous flashing.

Q: Do I need a transponder to control Skybeacon or just the app?

The Skybeacon requires a Mode C or Mode S transponder.

Q: Can the LED be replaced when it gives out?

If the lighting fails the unit will need to be sent in to the manufacturer for repair.

Q: Does it only work on 1200 or any squwak ATC gives you?

This is not dependent on the sqawck codes. This detects transponder output to create the ADS-B out.

Q: With the bundled ADSB in an out, does it display traffic on my Garmin AERA 660?

The AERA660 is not compatible with the skysensor for traffic.

Q: Will this work with Canadas space based ADSB system?

No, it will not.

Q: Will this uAvionix skyBeacon + skySensor ADS-B In / Out Bundle set up be compliant with the incoming changes to nav Canadas ads solution?

No, for the Canadian mandate, you should look into the tailBeaconX system (certified part # 11-17913 | experimental part # 11-18367).

Q: Why is the tailBeacon system compliant with the Canadian mandate but the SkyBeacon isn’t? Don’t they do the same thing? Also, how do I know if my wingtip or lighting configuration is supported by skyBeacon, and whether I need to purchase a fairing adapter kit?

It is is the tailBeaconX that is Canada compliant as it an integrated dipole antenna is specifically designed to maximize performance when tracked by the Aireon space-based ADS-B satellite constellation. The fairing adapter pages show the airframe models that need an adapter for install.

Q: Will this work on Piper aircraft? More specifically a 1974 PA 28 140? If not, is there an adapter for it to make it work? I noticed that it lists only Cessna Aircraft for fitment.

The PA28-140 is on the AML for this part, it can be used on your aircraft.
