Very good quality. Three different diameter tubes engage variety of axle stubs to pull/steer tailwheel. Strong spring but take care when pushing tailwheel with extra effort as it can open and disengage.

Not Universal. Won’t fit any nose wheel that requires the attach point to fit inside an attach point rather than over a protruding attach point. Won’t fit a C-182RG.

Purchased for a glider... Numerous engaging methods (hole diameters) Heavy duty spring for keeping sidebars in place. Collapsible, stores easily in tight glider trailers. Longer handle, important as towbar will attach to a tailboom dolly, usually forward of the vertical stab, and should be long enough to clear under large rudders. This towbar will need modifications, but provides the best starting point. This towbar seems robust enough to use with a vehicle hitch to the sailplane (yes, we tow them backwards). Con: easily scratched, powder coat would be nice. Still 5 stars (and a can of paint).

This is an excellent towbar. It is universal since it has several different diameter receiving slots for different axel sizes. (That may not appear in the picture). It is also longer than many, which allows a more efficient angle for pushing or pulling (not pushing wheel into ground so much). Also, it is collapsible. And the price is lower than some lesser towbars.

Overall a convenient design that works. The only problem is with 3 different attach fittings, the extras can rub and scratch places you don’t want scratched. I had to cut off the pins with an angle grinder since they dug into the forks of our ABI baby bushweel tailwheel fork. Our original order was not for the “universal” and was backordered for 6 months or more. So maybe we got “upgraded” just to get a delivery. It does work on the large bushwheel fork though. Just cut off some of the extras and repaint the head.

Pros: strong spring, multiple diameter options Cons: the tow bar arrived stuck, we needed two people to pull the the parts apart (scratching the paint) , I ended up sanding down the paint so I can assemble / collapse it easily compared to the regular Cessna style tow bar I had in the past this was very disappointing, other

Q: Will this tow bar work with the Piper that needs the hooks to tow it?

No, this tow bar gets connected at the lugs on the aircraft. It has the cups the slide over the lugs or in slots on the landing gear.

Q: What is the ID of the largest cups? (What is the largest lug the towbar will accept?)

The ID is 1-3/64".

Q: What is the ID of the smallest cups? Will it fit a 5/8 lug? How narrow will this pinch down to from cup to cup and still work properly?

The smallest tube is .270. This will not fit the 5/8 lug. It will pinch down to 3-1/2.

Q: Will this towbar work on DA42?

Per the manufacturer: If the DA42 has 5/8 lugs it will work.

Q: Will this work for a piper cub and a Cessna 140?

Yes, this universal tow should work for both if they have Scott 3200 tail wheels.

Q: Any idea if this will work on a Tundra Lite 8 inch or 10 inch tail wheel?

The specs only list the following tailwheels. SCOTT TAILWHEEL MODELS 3200,3400,3425, AND 3450.

Q: Will it fit Cirrus Sr20?

Yes, this should work for the Cirrus Sr20. Check the lug size on the nose wheel to be sure. Needs to be 5/8” lugs.

Q: This fit on RV 6 and 8 tail wheel?

These aircraft are not specifically mentioned as applicable. It will fit nose gear aircraft with 5/8 lugs.

Q: Will it work on Beringer wheel upgrade on PA-46?

There is no application guide by aircraft. This tow bar works on 5/8 lugs on a nose gear strut.

Q: Will this fit API 6 tailwheel?

This will fit the Scott tailwheel only.
