These devices measure the change in inductance in the magneto coil when the points open and close. Simply shorting the clip leads together will not indicate a point closing, therefore eliminating any false reading caused by loss of contact to the magneto grounding terminal. To use, simply remove one plug from each cylinder. Connect black clip lead to engine ground. Connect red and green leads to right and left magneto terminals. Turn propeller slowly. When the points open the L.E.D.s will turn off and the audio "tweeter" will sound. The magneto connected to the red lead will sound a rapid beat and the magneto connected to the green lead will sound a slower beat. When both sets of points are open, a third and continuous sound will be emitted. Adjust magneto timing accordingly.
100% solid state, compact 3/4" x 3" x 5" size, long battery life. Color coordinated leads are 4 ft. long. Comes in strong anodized aluminum case. Also available for single magnetos and without tweeter. The single timer is more expensive now because it is a new, updated version or style. This is a deluxe style with tweeter that has a sound system and 4 foot leads. |
Works great. Exactly what was needed.
Dual Magneto Synchron With Tweeter
Although I am indeed an aviator, this magneto timing light is a must have for vintage motorcycle use. I saw it used in an online video for timing a Vincent, which is what I have. The light makes the usually fussy task easy, and the results are more accurate than the “slide a cigarette paper between the points contacts” method. I am VERY happy with this purchase!
Deluxe Single Magneto Timing Light
This device works as advertised. The Green and Red LEDs light up prior to the ignition point trigger and they go off exactly at the ignition point. When LEDs are off, there are different tones for each channel that will sound, so it is trainable to the users ear which channel is firing before the other. Setting up dual magnetos is straight forward. This is a fair priced easy to use system.

Dual Magneto Synchron With Tweeter
My experience with the magneto synchronizer buzz box was like attending a comedy show for engines! Setting ignition timing on my aircrafts piston engine was never this entertaining. The buzz box not only synchronized my magnetos flawlessly but also gave me a hilarious soundtrack of buzzing noises, making the whole process feel like a high-stakes game of musical chairs for spark plugs. Who knew engine maintenance could be this much fun? Highly recommended

Per the supplier: Yes, they will work on a single mag.
Per the supplier: Yes, they will work on a single mag.
This will only work if you have a breaker point ignition system. It will not work if you have a more modern electric system.
The lights will go out when it fires.
Yes, these synchronizers include an instruction sheet in the box.
Per the manufacturer: The dual and single mag timers have operating instructions included with each timer. First time users sometimes do not read the instructions and erroneously assume that this timer will do the same thing as a different brand of timer. They sometimes think that they should get a sound indication by touching the ground lead (alligator clip) to the red or green lead. This again is an erroneous assumption on their part - based on their experience using a different make of Timer.
When I get an inquiry from someone who is having difficulty using the device, I do the following-
1) For Dual Synchronizers - I ask if both LED lights go on when the device switch is slid to the on position. If only one light goes on - there is a defect and the device should be returned to me. If no light goes on I ask that they replace the 9 volt battery and try again. With the single mag timer -only the LED labeled "Closed" should light up when the device is switched to "ON".
2) I ask them to attach the device to a working magneto. It's safest and best to do this on a bench with the magneto removed from the engine. They should clip the black ground wire to the magneto's casing and attaching either the red or green wire lead to the Magneto's "P" terminal. Then by rotating the Magneto's shaft they can expect to get the appropriate light and sound signals from the timing device. Sometimes they have a bad magneto and they need to try it on a second magneto
Often, I get inquiries from non-licensed mechanics who want to be walked through the entire timing procedure. I inform these individuals that this is a procedure that only licensed AP mechanics can legally perform.
This will work with both slick and bendix, per the instructions you just connect the clamps to the pleads.
Yes this uses a standard 9v battery.
