Core Return Policy

Any unit being returned for core or warranty core credit shall be, as removed from the engine, complete and not disassembled. No core or warranty core credit will be allowed for automotive units. Units that are rusty or cannot be overhauled for any reason will be classified as scrap, having no value. Units which have been weld repaired, as well as units which have been disassembled and then reassembled with old parts, will also be classified as scrap, having no value. A percentage of the core value will be charged for all missing or damaged parts. At no time will the damaged or missing parts charge on any unit exceed the core value of that unit.

1. Core will only be accepted for credit 12 months from date of invoice.
2. Cores returned in excess of cores invoiced will not be accepted.
3. Cores must be of like purchase, a directly superseded unit or replaced unit when installing an STC'd product.
4. Competitive product cores are acceptable returns.
5. Cores must have a legible data tag for part and serial number verification.

Note: Customer will need to provide core for overhaul in the event our supplier does not have cores available to overhaul.

Bought this starter to replace my SkyTec C12ST3 that’s no longer made. The alternative was the much more expensive PowerLite series by SkyTec. I only gained 9lbs going with this starter, saved $1K and it starts effortlessly and QUIETLY. Much more confident in my starts instead of wondering if the SkyTec has gotten noisier and is about to die. My SkyTec ended up having a bad commutator which caused intermittent no-starts that manifested itself as a bad battery. Would not recommend the light weight for O470 engines.

Q: When purchasing the Energizer starter, is there an o-ring that needs to be purchased separately? Anything else not included?

The O-ring P/N MS9021-038 comes with new units, but not with overhauled units. Overhauled units will need to purchase a separate MS9021-038 to comply with Continental instructions.

Q: Regarding 646275-1R: What is the meaning of the suffix of R?

The R designates that it is an overhauled starter. The units without the R are new, outright.

Q: What warranty period is offered on HARTZELL overhauled and new starters?

New: 36 months or 1000 operating hours. Overhauled: 6 months or 250 operating hours.

Q: Can the return starter core be the original TCM Starter or does it have to be like-for-like (i.e. a Hartzell Energizer Starter)?

It will have to be like for like.

Q: If I order a 646238-2R overhauled starter, can I return a core that is a regular Teledyne 646238?

Yes that is an acceptable core.

Q: I understand the core charge when purchasing an overhauled starter but do not understand why it is charged on a new starter purchase. Why is there a core charge on a new starter purchase?

Hartzell put in place cores on all starters and alternators starting in 2020. This includes new models. Hartzell accepts the starter that is being replaced on the aircraft as a core for a refund of the charge.

Q: Im looking at replacing a Delco 1109514. Is this an acceptable core for the 646238-2 and the 2R?

Yes, a Delco is an acceptable core.
