Lone Star Aviation's new 1 port blower is the smallest (1 x 2 x2 ), most efficient (brushless dc motor), and the most versatile avionics cooling fan in our industry today. |
Works fine - quiet and good volume
I needed a cooling fan for my Garmin 796 thats installed in my panel on my RV8. The Garmin mount already had a 5/8 cooling port connection in the rear of it. The mounting face plate on the fan has 2 possible positions to install it to make any angle direction possible. I soldered a longer red wire to reach my 12v bus and soldered a connection to the black (ground) wire. Works perfect.
It is light and quiet but the solder joints are very delicate. Both the solder joints for the ground and power wires failed with very little handling.
The one I received did not have the two screws to fasten the tube to the blower housing. When I test fitted a piece of scat duct the tube came right off when I removed the scat tube with little force. The tube was only glued in with silicone and not fastened with two screws as shown in the picture. In general I think this should sell for $10 bucks to reflect its quality.
I never leave reviews..... it seems some people are overly sensitive and leave unwarranted feedback. This is not that case. First, leads are exceptionally delicate (thats minor). Second, it arrived simply wrapped in bubble wrap with a rubber band and no instructions. It was non-functional as the impeller was frozen solidly in place which I learned only after installation. Talked to Lone Star and apparently a $180 item isnt worthy of a box as bubble wrap and a rubber band is the way theyre shipped. They blamed Spruce on leaving out the instructions. I purchased a second fan (which worked fine) and sent the original fan back to Lone Star for a warranty refund. Their response was that the fan was fine and there would be no refund. It apparently fixed itself in the mail. Id be very wary of this company.
