Q: Will this tailBeaconX unit provide wifi interface to an ipad/EFB? will it display position in foreflight?
No. This is an ADS-B OUT only unit and will not display anything on your tablet.
Q: Can the tailbeaconX transponder be controlled by the AV-30-C?
Yes, the tailBeaconX can be controlled by the AV-30-C.
Q: Can the tailbeaconX transponder be controlled by the AV-20-S?
For the certified version, no, it must be controlled with the AV-30-C. The experimental version of the tailbeaconX allows this.
Q: Can the ADSB mode be turned off on the tailBeacon X when not needed?
No, it does not have that feature.
Q: Will I have to buy the AV 30C to use this system or is the tailbeacon a stand alone system?
A control head is needed for the tailBeaconX. You can use the AV-30C or the a certified EFIS that is compatible with this unit.
Q: Does the tailbeacon x come with the wiring to connect to the AV30C?
No, there is no wiring included with this kit.
Q: Does this Uavionix tailBeaconX require a Form 337?
We always recommend consulting with your A&P installer for the correct paperwork to be filled out.
Q: I have Garmin G5 EFIS displays installed, will this work with the tailbeaconX, and if not, is there a simple head unit I can use? I see no reason to have a second redundant EFIS just to control the tailbeacon
As of right now, the TailbeaconX is only certified to be used with the AV-30-C.
Q: Can this be controlled from a Dynon HDX EFIS?
Per the manufacturer the experimental version is compatible with several EFIS displays including the Dynon Skyview. The certified version can only be controlled with the AV-30-C.
Q: You stated in a previous question that the ADSB tail beacon could not be turned off and yet if you turn off the NAV lights it is automatically turned off as it is not wired directly to the AV 30 is that correct?
This unit does have a direct connection to both the aircraft power and the AV-30-C. If you turn off your NAV lights, that will in effect turn off the ADS-B. The lights need to remain on during flight for ADS-B Out Compliance.
Q: Will TAILBEACONX and AV 30 C replace my mode C transponder?
Yes, the tailBeacon X will act as your new transponder.
Q: Will UAVIONIX TAILBEACONX TSO Supply the needed GPS data to AV 30-C for navigation?
Yes, however it will only supply GPS track. For full features, use another GPS source.
Q: If tailbeaconx and AV30C replace my transponder, will I still need my altitude encoder?
If tailBeaconX and AV-30-C are used for the transponder then the encoder could be removed.
Q: Can the AV-30C be used as the controller for tailBeacon x transponder while it is in DG mode?
The control for the tailBeaconX can be accessed when locked in DG mode. The display that will be used is an attitude indicator and will be on the 4th page and will say AI. No DG information will be displayed on this page. This "AI" page can currently be seen on all DGs that are locked it just looks like the second picture. Once the tailBeaconX is connected and the port turned on then the ADS-B information will be displayed.
Q: I understand that the certified version of TailbeaconX will be shipped after FAA approval, but if I order the TailbeaconX and AV-30 bundle, can you ship AV-30-C right away so that I can get a head start on the panel and installation work?
Unfortunately not since these bundles are shipped together from the manufacturer and not bundled by us internally. If you currently own a certified aircraft, you could purchase the AV-30-C now separately to receive it now and then order the tailBeaconX certified on it's own.
Q: Overview is a bit misleading: ... No new holes or pentetration of pressure vessels are required .... The Tailbeacon X requires wiring to couple it to the AV-30 does it not? That could possibly require a new hole or penetration of a pressure vessel, correct?
Per Uavionix. "On most aircraft we have installed upon over the past few years the existing wire routing passages were utilized resulting in no new holes or additional penetration of pressure vessels. Could it result in penetration? We agree it could. Has any install we've participated in required it? No. "
Q: Does the tailbeaconx require a subscription to aireon satellites to be of use in the USA or will it meet the USA requirements for adsb-out without such a subscription?
There is no subscription for end-users for Aireon satellite ADS-B. The TailbeaconX fully complies with the US ADS-B mandate, with no subscription.
Q: Do I have to run 2 AV-30 in a certified aircraft?
Per the manufacturer, upon approval, YES you will need 2 units for AI and DG. If the installation leaves no instruments that require the vacuum source, it can be removed. However, the removal of the vacuum source is not included in the AV-30 STC.
Q: Having to fly daytime VFR all the time with all nav lights on, just to power the Tailbeacon, seems like a waste of nav light life. Is there no other option to wire the ADSB portion of the unit separately to the avionics bus?
Per uAvionix, the power wire supplies power to the entire unit, transponder and light. THERE IS NOT WAY TO POWER THE ASD-B PORTION ON ITS OW. It is all on or all off.
Q: How many wires and what size wires required between TailBeaconX and AV-30-C?
A twisted, shielded pair of 24-22 GA wire is required per uAvionix.
Q: Is there a Canadian STC for this product?
They do not have a Canadian STC at this time but they do have an Ipb document to justify using the US tso and stc.
Q: Is the difference between the certified TSO and experimental only the paperwork?
Basically yes. The experimental version does not have the required documentation allowing it to be used on a certified aircraft. These have to be configured through an app that will require the aircraft information.
Q: My aircraft is a taildragger and the tail light sits low, close to the ground. Are the small fins flexible? Can they resist to mild contact with a towbar?
The blades on the tailBeaconX are semi flexible. As with any antenna they are not intended for contact with towbars or other foreign objects.
Q: So if this combination will replace the transponder, and ATC gives me a squawk code, will I be able to enter in using the AV-30?
The AV-30-C has the option of being the control interface for select uAvionix transponders (including the BeaconX family). This provides pressure altitude, mode, squawk code, and IDENT information to the transponder, and displays status and annunciations from the transponder.
Q: One of your precious answers sounded like 2 AV30s can replace a 6 pack on certified aircraft. Did I understand that correctly?
If you have an experimental aircraft (qty 2) AV-30-Es can replace a 6 pack of instruments. The AV-30-C cannot since it is not STCd to be a primary airspeed indicator or altimeter.
Q: Can the TailbeaconX be controlled by MGL Extreme mini EFIS using RS232 protocol?
Yes, the TailbeaconX can be controlled by an MGL EFIS using RS232.
