Overview

Airman 8+ ANR Ultra Lightweight Headset 600 OHM refined design elements and a range of new features that make AIRMAN 8+ the best-performing Telex Airman Active Noise Reduction (ANR) headset to date.

The Telex Airman 8+ is a lightweight noise-reducing headset designed specifically for optimizing pilot communications in commercial and business turbine aircraft. Building on the tradition of the Airman 8+ has improved ANR capability and comfort. The headset is only one of three FAA TSO C139a approved ANR headsets to utilize Telex’s proprietary battery-free system. Larger pliable ear cushions and headband pad combined with dual axis ear cup pivots to provide long flight wearing comfort.

The AIRMAN 8+ offers a range of innovative new features for increased comfort, stability and ease-of-use:
  • ANR reduces fatigue and improves intelligibility
  • Larger comfortable leatherette ear cushions and sanitary replaceable covers are included
  • Two different sized interchangeable soft headband pads and ultra-lightweight design for enhanced comfort, even on long flights
  • Strong stainless steel headband and dual-axis pivot points for increased durability and long headset life
  • New yoke design provides dual-axis adjustments and rotation stabilization

Features

Sound Quality
  • The Airman 8 features a high-quality amplified electret microphone for clear voice transmission. Improved ANR and microphone noise cancellation ensures superior in-flight communication.
Active Noise Reduction
  • The Airman 8 headset features enhanced ANR (Active Noise Reduction) with even more noise reduction, helping to improve intelligibility and reduce fatigue. The position of the ANR switch has also moved to the forward-facing ear cup side, making it easier to reach the switch without having to remove the headset. A unique feature of the Airman 8 is that it is powered from its microphone system, eliminating the need for batteries or special connectors.
Durability
  • A strong stainless steel headband with metal pivots improves durability for long headset life. The new microphone boom design provides stronger rotation stops, utilizing the full diameter of the ear cup. Furthermore, a pre-coiled overhead cord has been added to extend the useful life of the headset. The main headset cord is also more robust and features an improved design of the band relief on the ear cup entrance.
Comfort and Fit
  • The soft headband pad and lightweight design provides comfort, even on long flights. An added yoke provides enhanced comfort by allowing ear cup movement in all directions. Furthermore the Airman 8 comes with replaceable ear cup covers and leatherette ear cushions.
Safety Improvements
  • An acoustic limiter protects users against sudden increases in sound levels
FAA TSO Approval
  • The Airman 8 headset is fully FAA TSO C-139a compliant.
ARINC standards
  • The Airman 8 is fully compliant to ARINC (Aeronautical Radio, Incorporated) requirements.
Versions Available
  • The Airman 8 is available in different dual-sided configurations.

Telex Airman 8+ Double Side ANR Headset Dual GA 600Ohm

TL DR: not as good as expected with the ears not being properly covered and therefore more noise from the aircraft being audible. I bought this Telex as a replacement of my Sennheiser HMEC-25KA because Sennheiser stopped making them. So far, I found the Telex not live up to my expectations. The ears are less covered compared to my Sennheiser. Combined with less pressure to hold them onto the ears, there is more noise from the aircraft coming in. So despite the ANR, I still found them more noisy than I expected. I also found that after a while my ears started to hurt since there is more pressure at the back of the ear than at the front. Im hoping this will change if I get the top of the headset positioned differently. I think putting it more to the back might help but even if thats the case, it means its very sensitive to how you place it on your head. The good thing about it is: no more batteries required and the sound from the microphone is crystal clear. Altogether Im a bit disappointed with this headset at this price tag.

They could be used in a GA environment but they are most typically used in commercial or airline applications.
