Q&A

Please note, Aircraft Spruce Australia's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Aircraft Spruce Australia assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Any product eligibility information provided here is based on general application guides and we recommend always referring to your specific aircraft parts manual, the parts manufacturer or consulting with a qualified mechanic.

Q: When will the whelen orion 650 be availabl to ship?

Q: Can you confirm that the Whelen OR6502GE and OR6502RE combined with the OR5002V LED position/strobes do NOT require a power supply? Which Whelen cable/wire installation kit do you recommend with these three items?

Per the supplier: the mentioned assemblies do not require any external power supply as they are self contained. Also, the Whelen cable kits that we sell would not work for these lights as they are 16 gauge shielded wires. These assemblies are DC current and require no shielding as well as smaller gauge wire. We would recommend that they get standard aircraft cable which does not need to be shielded.

Q: I know you can sync the OR6502GE and ORG502RE together. My question is can you sync the OR5002V with the other Nav/Strobes so that all the strobes pulse at the same time?

Yes, all Orion series lights have a sync wire attached. Simply attach all sync wires together and they will all flash at the same time.

Q: Regarding the Whelen Orion 650E Series lighting: What is the lighting arrangement of this unit? I understand the red/geen position lights are constant but do ALL remaining LEDs flash or do some stay on steady while some flash?

All white LED's flash, the only steady burning ones are the red/green.

Q: Are the Whelen Orion 650E lights sold as a set or sold separately?

These lights are priced and sold separately.

Q: What gauge wire do these have for the 4 leads coming off the OR6501GE?

Per the manufacturer, these will use 20 awg wire.

Q: Can the Whelen Orion 650E strobe be wired on a separate off/on switch?

Yes, the strobe can be wired on separate switch as each wire has separate power.

Q: I have the Whelen Model A610 lights. If i changed them out to the new 650E series would I have to change the wiring? And would they mount the same?

The footprint would be the same but the wiring would need to be changed. The 650E does not require the power supply that the 610 strobe needed so you would have remove it or wire around it.

Q: The white strobe appears to shine forward and side only. Do you have to have a tail strobe also to meet the visibility specs?

Yes we offer led taillights. Customers commonly pair these wingtips with the OR5001V / OR5002V tail.

Q: I have the Whelen A610 lights now. Will these lights work with current wiring or will new wiring be needed?

They would need to be rewired bypassing the power supply.
